How did I get here Pt. 3

Wow what a long time to wait for a story to wrap up. You would think I was a writer for Game of Thrones.

Going into my 8th year of catering for a local caterer I was excited but also a little frustrated by things that had happened the previous season.

There had been several events we had been short items we needed to get meals out. Ingredients, utensils, pots, pans, sternos ect. While I know nothing is perfect and the shit show that is catering is the norm. At times it was a bit much plus the shortage of people to work events added to the stress.

Sometimes random events spawn fantastic outcomes.

In early April 2023 a local Mexican restaurant that we had been going to for years was having their 10th anniversary. The owner invited my girlfriend ( Lois) and myself to the anniversary party. Friends we went with often were invited as well. When the date was finally announced, when the party would be, it was in early May.

As it happened Lois was going to be out of town. As well as our friends. I was bumped because there was going to be special food and unique tequila drinks. Our friends suggested that I invite their daughter who I was good friends with.

The day of the big shindig finally arrived. We met there and headed inside for fun and festivities. It seemed very weird that there was not really anybody there. And there was no extra sense of fun. We were told that the party had been moved out a week and I had not been informed of the date change.

But we figured, as long as we were there, we might as well suffer through a margarita or two. The previous a few weeks at work had been extra frustrating. As what happens normally when you're sitting around drinking, the first thing to get out of the way is work talk. The previous a few weeks at work had been extra frustrating. Work wise and people.

My friend is a health inspector so we often talk about restaurants. GMy friend is a health inspector so we often talk about restaurants good and and bad. Plus she is my go too.If I ever have any questions or people think I could possibly be wrong about this.

So I asked her in her job, what percentage of time she works alone. She said, probably about ninety percent of the time. That sounded amazingly wonderful to me. And I wish I could do that.

She casually mentioned that if I started doing some private chefing, I could do that. Over the next few minutes we talked more about that. I asked her what health department regulations. As far as private chefing was concerned.

Over the next hour, the idea of me starting my own business was born.

I had some more thinking to do and putting specifics together after that. But even that night, I knew it was a fantastic idea. My official start date for Cheffing It Up is May 25th. For some of you that might be just a random date, even people that know me may wonder. I guess it all depends on your level of nerdom. May twenty fifth nineteen seventy seven is the day Star Ears debuted. That day changed my life. So I figured for another change in my life. The date would be good.

And that is how I got to here. Wasn't it worth the wait.

The picture at the beginning of this is from my first gig.
